Water Chesnut

I just found out that this famous "sengkuang cina" or Chinese water chesnut is used to increase the milk production. Water chestnut is a tuber nut with great nutrient benefits and nice taste... I like it. It contains high carbohydrates and a good replacement for grains. It is also a good source for fibre and vitamin B, and also contains Potassium, Calcium, zinc and iron.

Among the water chestnut’s benefit known in our region:

  • To increase milk production.
  • To reduce body heat.
  • To relief jaundice (not for babies, as babies are recommended to be breastfed alone. But still I had this petua from orang2 tua for babies too).
  • Cough reliever.
  • Source of energy – high in calorie.
  • Promote urination. Good for UTI.
  • To relieve nauseousness.
  • To be used in detox.

However it shouldn’t be taken too much because it will upset our stomach and body.

Fresh water chestnut can be get at the local market and supermarket such as Giants, Tesco, etc. However, F&N made our life easier by producing water chestnut drink in aluminium tin named Season

And one most famous thai desert that i like most is Ruby in coconut milk... hehehehe...

Balqis admitted....

mmm... I don't know how to start... mmm... well yes Balqis was admitted to hospital last Saturday. We went back hospital to have another checkup up since her fever doesn't heal off. Doctor examined her and confirm us she had to be admitted. Her doctor said, she should have recovered after 2-3 days with second antibiotics. Maybe her body doesn't terima those antibiotics melalui makan or the kuman is damn strong! the doctor said she need to be admitted to give medicine trough blood to recover her fever if not the other sickness won't recover (flu & cough).

Wad kanak-kanak

Balqis had to receive healing medication for her kahak... since she is small and doesn't know to buang that kahak on her own. Then, she needs to be inserted with needle in her hand for medications. during the proses we both mama and ayah can't be in the room. Balqis cried for me to be with her and cried loud in pain... I cried slowly outside. sorry dear it is for your own good.... Later, doctor ask us to take her... balqis teresak-esak & mambling macam telling me what they had done to her.... I tried to comfort her and she stop crying.

Jarum yang dicucuk untuk memasukkan ubat

Gas yang perlu disedut Balqis bagi mengurangkan kahak

Setelah penat menagis

nilah kerja dia.. gigit & tarik nak buang... dan akhirnya berjaya...

ubat sedang dimasukkan-pada awalnya macam ni lah tak de reaksi pun.. tapi after 2-3 times, balqis mula menangis setiap kali masuk ubat.

Since then, balqis is phobia with langsir & people with turquoise & white uniform (nurse that is). She will cried load when she sees them. And for that reason I'm the one to feed her medicine. Except for medication trough blood and inhaler gas.

Our time was full with medication session and sesi pujuk memujuk, since there is so many nurses wondering around and taking her temperature, heart beat & medications.

ayah tengah pujuk pi jalan-jalan

ni gambar favorite balqis... tengok this painting mesti dia gelak & senyum.

Balqis also need for physiotherapy to help her clear her trout and lugs from kahak. Every time & session she will cry ( I think it is because there was a nurse and she had to be bedung).

On Monday night, during one of the nurse insert medication trough blood. She cried in pain very loud. We all panic since shes usually doesn't cried that loud. We are assuming there's something was wrong and she is great pain. We immediately ask that nurse to pull out that jarum. After that she's slowly stop crying. then, she was discharge on Tuesday noon.
Alhamdullilah. Dah boleh keluar wad... But still we worried about her. This is because she doesn't want to bottle feed and makan other than breastfeed. Kurusla anak aku kalau terus macam nie... We consult the doctor, and she said it is okay and normal because she wasn't fully recovered. When she's feeling ok, she will gradually eat and drink her milk again. Hopefully she will recover soon, coz mama not having anymore cuti.

fever dah lega, but still got the flu & cough

balqis is sick...

She is sick again... baru jer last week demam panas (6th July 2009)... and last-last week (23rd June 2009)..that is the first time she had high fever. Which I had to had 1/2 day EL take her home from nanny's house to s her doctor... I was panic coz her nanny told me her temperature that time was 38.8 degree... that's hell very high....

Now she's sick again since last Friday... We thought it was just normal fever. Coz she's happily playing like normal and smiling around, just she had high temperature. But last Sunday evening at about 4.15pm... she woke up from sleep not looking well and very weak. She's bearly open her eyes and not a single smile seen. I touch and feel her forehead... My God so HOT!! We quickly give her 1.5ml dose of medicine. We are panic and quickly changed clothes prepared to go to nearest hospital (Columbia Asia that is). We quickly took her to emergency unit (coz it's Sunday Clinics are closed). The nurse take her temperature and weight. The thermometer stated 38.8 degree. Ya Allah!! tinggi nyer!! entah berapalah temperature my daughter at home before taking the medicine. (mana tak panik dalam amik ubat pun bole temperature burst) Patutla lembik... The doctor ask us whether want to admit her or not? Since the doctor said it was the same whether at home or at the hospital... we agreed to take her home with guide how to take care of her.

Doctor prescribe her medicine with antibiotics. the medicine prescribed are the same as what we had given her... except for the antibiotics cos that one we can't keep them after 5 days. Till today she is still sick but her temperature doesn't hike like last Sunday. We straight away went to nearest pharmacy to buy thermometer for us to monitor her temperature at home.

Hopefully she'll be better tomorrow. I have to work... mana ada company nak bagi cuti lelama.. EL lak tu...

definition of mother

I just want to share with you what I've read recently... definitely for all mothers out there... do not shy to admit you are a mother or a housewife.. :) I quote one paragraph,

".... at our City Hall. The clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient, and possessed of high-sounding title, like "Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar." "And what is your occupation?" she probed. What made me say it, I don't know. It simply popped out. "I'm ..... a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations." The clerk paused, pen in hand frozen in mid-air, and looked up as though she had not heard me right. I repeated the title slowly, emphasising the significant words.

Then I stared at wonder as my pompous pronouncement was written in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. "Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest, "just what you do in your field?" Coolly, without a trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, "I have a continuing program of research (what mother doesn't) in the laboratory and in the field (normally I would have said indoors and out). I'm working for my Master (the whole darned family) and already have four credits (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities (any mother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours a day (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most of the run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are in satisfaction rather than just money."

There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door. As I drove into our driveway buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants - ages 13,7, and 3. And upstairs hear our new experimental model (six months) in the child development program, testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt triumphant. I had scored records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another...."

After reading this article I'm honoured to be a mother... Do you??
